Liverpool are interested in signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Telegraph. The France international has really impressed this season, scoring 21 goals in 21 Ligue 1 games. The rumoured reports suggest he could finally be allowed to leave Lyon at the end of the season.
Liverpool aren’t the only side linked with a move for the 25-year-old, with Tottenham and Arsenal also linked with the striker. Atletico Madrid are also supposedly interested with the club looking to plan for a future without star man Antoine Griezmann, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.
Lyon are said to want £60m for Lacazette, who has been told he can leave the club after an impressive spell at his boyhood club. Atletico tried to sign Lacazette during the January transfer window but were unsuccessful, while Griezmann, who is close friends with Lacazette, has previously stated he hopes Atletico will him. While Lacazette has been told he can leave, Lyon club president Jean-Michel Aulas is a notoriously difficult negotiator, having previously rejected bids from West Ham and Arsenal for Lacazette.
No recognised strikers this season
Mané is the club’s leading scorer this season, having netted 11 Premier League goals. However, with Jurgen Klopp’s conscious decision to play without a recognised striker this season, with Mané, Firmino and Coutinho sharing the goalscoring burden you do have to question how a natural goalscoring talent would fit in.
While Liverpool still have Daniel Sturridge available as an option up front, we have only seen glimpses of him this season. It is expected the England international will leave at the end of the season after failing to impress over the past two seasons.
The question still remains can Klopp’s system allow a specialist?
