Could U23 Manager be Gerrard’s next role?

After winning the Champions League final

Liverpool need a new U23 manager after Michael Beale quit the Anfield club to become an assistant boss at Sao Paulo in Brazil. Could U23 Manager be Gerrard’s next role? There have been so many reports about Steven Gerrard returning to Anfield in a coaching capacity after he stopped negotiations with MK Dons. Jurgen Klopp has been very open from the start and just recently stated that there could be potential academy role for Gerrard.

It is thought that whilst Liverpool have yet to officially offer Gerrard a job. Also being reported that Jurgen Klopp is keen to work with the 36-year-old. Where a return to his boyhood club has always been the romantic fairy tale that many expected.

The once captain who won two FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Cup and one Champions League as a player would really command respect amongst the ranks. His media career gives us a good insight into his calm, thoughtful approach.

However Michael Beale’s departure to Sao Paulo has now increased the chances of Steven Gerrard returning to Liverpool in a backroom role, according to The Independent, who claim that Beale’s exit could provide the former Liverpool legend an ‘unexpected opportunity’.

Gerrard’s next role

It will be a tough role. Personally i’d prefer to see him at the academy with this role something he can work towards in time as he earns his coaching badges. He needs to develop and evolve his coaching style. Whilst it’s a fantastic opportunity, should he be offered it, it’s not something you can grow into. He will need to really hit the ground running as Beale will be difficult to replace.

This is the guy who did excellent work in the Liverpool youth team. Developing talent such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ovie Ejaria and Ben Woodburn. Players who have come through the ranks, to U23 level and now knocking on the door of 1st team.
