Sturridge going, but only for £40m
It’s hardy a surprise to hear the stories that Daniel Sturridge will be leaving this summer. What is a surprise is the valuation that Liverpool have put on him; a massive £40m!!
The former Chelsea striker has scored 59 goals in 115 games since January 2013, however the 27-year-old has struggled to play regular games under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. The news reports have suggested that Liverpool will place a £40million valuation on striker Sturridge if the 27-year-old England international indicates he’d like to leave Anfield this summer.
He’s recentlt received interest from Paris Saint-Germain and was linked to West Ham last summer.
But he has struggled to play regular games under Jurgen Klopp and missed games earlier this year with a hip injury and a virus. It’s been a frustrating 18 months for him and also, to a certain extent Liverpool fans. It’s seems a long time ago that he was destroying defences with his pace whilst playing alongside Suarez and Sterling.
However now with Klopp preferring Firmino in a ‘false 9’ playing alongside Coutinho and Mané, he has been pushed down the pecking order!
Whilst £40m does seem a large fee Liverpool do have a bit of a reputation for receiving a good price when selling forward players. Fernando Torres cost a British record £50million when he joined Chelsea in 2011 and Luis Suarez fetched a reported £75million when he signed for Barcelona three years later. Lets not forget the £32m we received from Crystal Palace last summer for Christian Benteke.
I sincerely wish him all the best and hope he does move on and fulfil his potential. My slight concern is that should he stay in the Premier League he could come back to haunt us in a similar was to Benteke.
