I personally feel we are very lucky at Liverpool to have our favourite German, Jurgen Klopp, proving the signs of a positive future at Liverpool look good.
It’s his first full season in charge and it really does need to be a big one. Next weekend the Premier League football kicks off in style! There is so much quality compared to previous years and that’s just the managers we have now!!
Let’s be honest the last few years have been a disappointment apart from when we ‘almost’ won it. Which, incidentally was a season when we had no European Football…surely that will work in our favour.
Over the summer Klopp has started to make the squad his own after getting rid of any deadwood and bringing in plenty of new faces. The players he has bought certainly have made us a lot stronger. Karius is providing great, much needed competition for Mignolet.
The midfield recruits especially Mane and Wijnaldum will add more goals. A tone has been set…Liverpool are now slowly transforming into a top side that genuinely has the potential to reach Champions League qualification. This has to be our minimum expectation. Allowing us in 12 months time to really build upon it with some world class signings.
Liverpool are still a worry when defending and still lack defensive stability. Who is the preferred CB pairing? Karius is now out for up to 10 weeks giving Mignolet free reign to do what he likes….Hopefully this will give him the confidence to move forward. Let’s not forget our left back….our only left back in Moreno.
Signing someone of Hectors stature would really add the needed stability, to really give the midfield ahead the confidence to do what is expected.
Liverpool’s key men are in midfield. Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Saido Mane, Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum form arguably one of the best attacking midfield’s in the league with their pace, flicks and tricks. If Firmino shows the great form he had in the 2nd half of the season, it may be him keeping Sturridge out for the starting lineup, not Origi as expected. What a great position to be in, all of a sudden we now how options. Something that couldn’t have been said this time last year. Great signs of a positive future.
During pre-season it looked as if our formation was slightly tweaked. With a now operating 4-3-3 rather that Klopp’s usual 4-2-3-1. With Can providing the engine and Wijnaldum and Lallana either side of him. This will provide additional goals as we look for extra runners breaking into the box late. Then a front 3 of Coutinho, Firmino and Mane. The form against Barcelona was devastating and if we can emulate the high pressing tempo then teams will find it hard to play against us. Watching the ball getting recycled so quickly and the options available for our attack was a joy to see. All of a sudden we are now attacking with a clear purpose….a well planned threat. The players now know what to do. Pre-season seems to have been a success for Klopp and his coaching team, the message looks like it’s been delivered successfully.
Positive future at Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp wanted to turn doubters into believers, he’s certainly done that. Liverpool now offer something different in terms of team spirit, there is a real togetherness that has been lacking for sometime.
It’s that spirit that will help Liverpool achieve great things this season and beyond. It was that unity that helped Liverpool beat some formidable opponents on their way to the Europa League final.
We needed to make Anfield a fortress again. Somewhere opponents feared to come. Towards the end of last season it looked like the tide was turning and the Anfield faithful agreed. Scenes of Klopp orchestrating the crowds cheers were a joy to watch. The atmosphere is only going to get better when the new stand is opened, with another 10k supporters!!!
For the 1st pre-season in a long time it feels good. The signs of a positive future at Liverpool look good. I now await to see if it all goes to plan as the new season kicks off.
