Mamadou Sakho was initially given a 30-day provisional ban by UEFA in April after he had failed a drugs test, testing positive for a fat burner drug.
In his defence Sakho did question if the substance in the supplement he took should even be banned. The knock on effect is that now UEFA have decided to investigate whether the substance itself
should be banned or not rather than setting a date for a case and extending the 26-year-old’s provisional ban.
Long term ban..
If UEFA do decide to investigate the substance 1st, then we need to wait for those findings before the issue with Sakho is resolved. This could take a long time to resolve…..
The question is; Do we enter the transfer market for a new central defender, or wait to see what happens?
Currently we have Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as our only senior central defenders, due to Martin Skrtel being sold and Kolo Toure being released from his contract.
Ideally Klopp would like 4 Centre backs for next season. Joe Gomez is close to return and will be 4th choice.
Do we search an alternative…?
One person we have been linked with is Gabriel Mercado from River Plate. River Plate President D’Onofrio has spoken about Klopp’s admiration for the 28-year-old stating that “he (Klopp) likes him”. Later telling Fox news that Klopp is interested in bringing him to Anfield.
Mercado, who is currently on international duty with Argentina playing at the Copa America. Reports have said that he is being closely monitored by Klopp who did actually attend the Argentina Vs. Chile game, where the defender actually scored.
But, word of warning….he also attended ‘The Game’ sitting near Higuain’s brother….no offer came of that….
We’ll have wait and see….what would you do?
