Liverpool need a bit more defensive stability. Following on from the purchase of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez returning from injury, we have allowed Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure to leave.
Step forward Ragnar Klavan
Jurgen Klopp makes it summer signing number 5, with Estonia international Ragnar Klavan. Signing from Bundesliga side Augsburg in deal worth up to £5m.
One if of the priorities this summer is to reinforce the defence after it being exposed too frequently last season. All would have been ok but it looks like the issue with Mamadou Sakho has yet to be resolved and Joe Gomez is now ruled out at the moment due to injury.
Klopp is very well aware of what Klavan can offer as he has spent the past few years in the Bundesliga.
“I’ve seen up close for three seasons how good his performances in Germany have been.” Further adding; “last season we got chance to see him against us.”
Adding defensive stability
Great video from ‘Defence is art’ summing him up so nicely.
He should be making his debut during the annual tour in the US.
Klopp identified the experienced Klavan as a great back up for Lovren and Matip. He also impressed against us in the Europa League last season
His mindset and willingness to work hard for the team will really impress the fans. The last time he played against us at Dortmund they had 10 men and he defended really well to help them get a clean sheet and a win.
Klopp told Liverpools official website: “At the end of last season I knew that if we decided to take somebody in this position he was the one I wanted. Now I’m really happy with the options we have got at centre back.
