There have been a few news reports this week that Paris Saint-Germain are still interested in buying Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho. They initially had a €25m bid rejected in the summer – which is way too low. I would expect treble that now in the summer especially as Real Madrid are also rumoured to be interested.
According to French news outlet Le10Sport, Qatari businessman and PSG’s Nasser Al-Khelaifi has suggested that they are still interested in bringing the South American to the French capital.
Back in June, PSG had reported that they would be willing to spend up to €60m for the midfielder. Improving their attacking line up is something new manager Unai Emery really needs to focus on.
Happy at Liverpool
Coutinho has stated that he is really happy at Liverpool and the city feels like his home. “I feel happy, settled and comfortable here with the city and the people. It’s an amazing city. I enjoy going to the cinema with my wife and to restaurants in town. The supporters are very nice. Hearing people singing my name, it inspires me. The fans here make me feel amazing.”
Back in June, PSG had reported that they would be willing to spend up to €60m for the midfielder. Improving their attacking line up is something new manager Unai Emery really needs to focus on. Jese has struggled to adapt to the French division with the reigning champions after his recent transfer from Real Madrid. Edison Cavani is struggling to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic and he’s still too inconsistent to be called a ‘world class’ forward he was once considered.
There are rumours that during training Hatem Ben Arfa has upset Emery. It has been reported that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Lucas Moura. In order to sign Coutinho PSG would probably look at putting together a swap deal.
Developing relationship with Firmino and Mane
Coutinho is a massive player for Liverpool and his relationship with Firmino and Mane is developing at a rapid pace. “Maybe this is the best I’ve played but I still think I can improve.”
He loves playing for Liverpool and I can only really see him moving on should they fail to make a Champions League spot. “This is just the start. I always want to improve and do better, I want to be an important player for this team and help my team-mates to achieve great things.”
Coutinho is a big fan of Klopp and they look as if they have a great relationship. “Jurgen has helped me to develop a lot as a player. I really enjoy working with this manager. He has given me a lot of confidence.” Liverpool are on a journey together and I wouldn’t be surprised if Coutinho saw it through. “The team plays differently now. We play high pressure football. This style suits us and this manager is so important for Liverpool. I believe in this squad. The manager has changed a lot. He has changed the mentality of the group.”
No one for sale
We have a squad capable of challenging right now – the squad has players that are of a higher quality. There will always be stories of how clubs are after them. The real sign of intent from us as a club and FSG as the leadership would be to reject these rumours. No one is for sale – players are sold on our terms only. When we get to that stage then we know we have a serious challenge ahead. We saw more of that this summer, especially the way the Benteke transfer to Crystal Palace was impressively handled.
