Premier league clubs are on red alert as Real Madrid star James Rodriguez has been told by the European champions that he was free to leave the club.
It is understood that the Colombian prefers a move to Chelsea over the likes of Manchester United and Serie A club Inter Milan – who have also been linked with a move for the player. A transfer away from Madrid is currently being put together by super-agent Jorge Mendes.
The former Porto and Monaco man is understood to be Chelsea’s top target. They are expected to have plenty of available money to spend in the January transfer window as they are expected to make a lot of money from the sale of Oscar to the Chinese Super League. This means they’re now actively looking for a replacement.
Initially Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane were reluctant to let James leave the club. However this may have changed after the news on Tuesday that their transfer ban had been reduced to just one transfer window.
This means Real are now able to sign players from next summer, as opposed to January 2018, so should Rodriguez move a replacement would be sought quickly.
To add more fuel to the fire there have been reports in Colombia stating he had visited the British Embassy in a bid to get his visa application sorted.
Should the transfer go ahead this would be seen as a major achievement for Conte and the owners.
Should other clubs be worried? 6 points clear with potentially a world class attacker coming into the mix – I’d be. Well it is the Premier League after all!!
