Is Oxlade-Chamberlain the answer? At £35m is it at gamble?

There have been numerous reports over the last day or two that Liverpool are again interested in a possible summer deal for Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.  A powerful winger who is already used to the Premier League – brilliant news.

The only alarm bells are his transfer fee. The England international has a vast £35m price tag on his head- WOW!! That would see us have to equal our transfer record to bring him to Anfield.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool won’t be scared off by the fact that the Gunners are asking for more than the Sadio Mané fee.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is about to enter his final year of his current Arsenal contract. Liverpool are looking to take advantage of the fact that he has yet to open negotiations over a new contract.

Just recently there has been a lot of talk surrounding players potentially leaving Arsenal at the end of the season. With a lot of uncertainty over the future of Arsene Wenger players are potentially planning their escape!! Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League. Potentially missing out on Champions League football next season.

Fitting in with English players at Liverpool

Oxlade-Chamberlain is an England international and the fact he’s been a bit-part utility player this season will be very frustrating for him.

The suggestion from the Telegraph is that Liverpool are confident of negotiating Arsenal down from £35m. Adding the 23-year-old to a strong pool of English talent led by Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne and former Southampton team-mate Adam Lallana.

If he makes it clear he wants to leave, the power at the negotiating table would be Liverpool’s. An offer of Champions League football would make it that bit easier.

Liverpool are on a journey, with Klopp at the helm it’s an exciting time. Who wouldn’t want to join?

  1. Think it’s a lot of money for him.
However, if we had him whilst Mane was off, then we may be leading the Premier League!
