New contract for Coutinho
Liverpool are reportedly set to offer their star man Philippe Coutinho a new and improved contract in order to secure his future at the club, with interest from Europe’s elite intensifying.
The Brazilian international has quickly become one of the most wanted players in Europe after his scintillating start for the Reds this season, producing five goals and five assists from midfield. The great form has attracted some serious attention from European giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
According to the Daily Star, the 24-year-old is set to be offered a new deal by the Merseyside club in order to scare off any potential bidders. They are prepared to make him their highest-paid player on around £150k-a-week, despite rumours that they would be willing to listen to offers of £90m.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are keen to bring the playmaker to the club as a like-for-like switch for ageing midfielder David Silva. However Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to sell to a Premier League title rival, unlike Brendan Rodgers, who let Raheem Sterling move to Manchester City in 2015 for £50m.
Currently out injured
Coutinho is currently on the treatment table recovering from an ankle ligament injury suffered against Sunderland last month. He will be out until the new year, where he hopes to make his Premier League return to spearhead Klopp’s title surge against current leaders Chelsea.
