The morning after the Europa League Final
What can be said about the final. We didn’t want half time of the Europa League final to come that’s for sure. I still can’t believe Liverpool lost to Sevilla. Within 17 secs of the 2nd half my head knew it wasn’t to be.
It just took another 47 minutes till the final whistle to make my heart realise my head was right.
I was gutted…it’s so hard to explain or draw parallels with to help non-football fans understand.
Yes the world is still spinning. There are greater problems in the world, but regardless of all that…we lost….we lost a final…a European final that would have meant Champions League.
What did the papers say?
Daily Telegraph went with the focus on Moreno’s poor performance;
It was like the anti-Istanbul. All going wrong at half-time. Alberto Moreno was a hero for Sevilla in the Uefa Cup two years ago. He was unable to repeat the trick in Liverpool colours. Moreno didn’t bother to come out for the second half. (extract from article.)
The Express focused on how the loss would benefit Klopp;
The Reds suffered a 3-1 defeat in Basle as two-time defending champions Sevilla came from a goal down to lift the trophy once more. Liverpool will be without European football next year and can concentrate solely on the league and English cup competitions. And Klopp reckons his side can use the experience of falling short at the final hurdle in the Europa League to make themselves a stronger side. (extract from article.)
Next season will be different. Be our year.
Interestingly, since we have no mid week travels across Europe Klopp will now have about a week before games.
Wow….just imagine what he can do in that week before games…
We have heard that so many times, but as this season draws to a close….whist I’m upset from last night, I do have that glimmer of hope.
Hope will help us all move on.
But gee, 2 finals and no win.
