TRANSFER RUMOUR: It’s not a massive surprise to most that Liverpool will be attempting to bolster their defence over the summer. The latest name added to that list may surprise some. However after an impressive season for Burnley, Centre Back Michael Keane is looking to be a great option.
The former Manchester United trainee’s value in the transfer will only increase after recently making his international debut for England against Germany. Having joined Burnley in 2014, Keane has seen his profile rise under the guidance of Sean Dyche, resulting in 103 appearances in all competitions for the Clarets.
With his ability to intercept (1.9 per game) and effectively clear the ball (7.7 per game), Keane keeps things simple and he is assured in possession, a trait becoming increasingly important for centre-backs to possess.
The 24-year old fits the typical Liverpool profile, young and talented with significant room for improvement. His lack of pace may be a concern as the Reds weakness has come from opposition runners behind the defensive line.
However, if his development is to continue in an upward trajectory he could be an integral part of most defensive lines in the league, such is his ability. He is also strong in the air and is capable of impacting the scoreboard, with two goals and an assist to his name so far this campaign.
With Burnley seemingly clear of relegation, Keane will almost certainly retain his Premier League status next season but with top clubs on the look out, only time will tell if he is to be tempted to move from the club which gave him his big break.
