Lazio have reportedly made a £5m bid for Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva – the 30-year-old is believed to be on his way out of Anfield after being told that game time will be hard to come by next season.
Lucas has made 247 appearances for the Merseyside club since joining in 2007, and now, after a decade of turning out for the Reds, it appears that his time is up with Jurgen Klopp informing the Brazilian that game time will be in short supply for him next campaign.
According to the Times, Serie A outfit Lazio have submitted a £5m bid for his services, and this has led to belief that Lucas may now miss Liverpool’s friendly against Wigan Athletic – the club expected to accept the offer.
Lazio have come in for Lucas as a replacement for their very own Lucas Biglia, who is about to join AC Milan for a reported £17.6m.
As of late, Lucas has been playing at Centre-Back under Klopp. Where last season he only started just 12 times. Lucas has had to compete against Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum, Coutinho and Lallana for some game time. So has naturally has struggled to find a place.
The cult hero has always been a massive hit amongst the Liverpool fans, and his strong relationship with Jurgen Klopp.
However, after the German informed Lucas that game time will be hard to come by next season, the Brazilian reportedly made it clear that he needed a way out – with first team football being his top priority at 30.
Lucas has racked up an impressive 346 Reds appearances over the last ten years and will leave for exactly the same amount of money Liverpool paid Gremio in 2007.
Klopp is in the market for a new central midfielder and centre-half, but despite Lucas Leiva’s ability to play in either of those roles, the German is seemingly happy to let him go – instead looking to bring in new faces to Anfield.
