Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has officially committed his long-term future to the club, putting pen to paper with a new four-year contract worth £100,000 per week. This will now keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2020/21 season, this is a massive show of faith from Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool also have an option to extend the deal for an extra season too!
“I think I am the happiest guy in the world today, it’s another dream come true.” Lovren told the official website. “It was always my dream to stay as long as possible at the one club that I love – and that is Liverpool”
“After all that happened in the beginning, in the last two seasons I think I’ve done better than in the first season. The club has rewarded me, they believed in me and also the fans, and this is what I respect a lot after everything that happened.”
Lovren’s previous deal had two years left and Klopp clearly wanted to end any uncertainty over his future by offering him such an improved contract. There have been many calls for him to be dropped during the season. The Left side of defence has been seen as weak spot throughout the season frequently exploited. So for many fans the news this morning will come as a surprise.
“I am pleased with everything and I just want to stay here as long as possible and be a part of this family for many, many years to come.”
