Liverpool’s Henderson talk about fitness
Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp has caused quite a few discussions over the past few months. Now Liverpool are top of the Premier League we now look at each other and say “he was right – knew he would be.” Klopp typically creates teams that press, pass the ball, hunt for the ball when out of possession and quite literally run the other team into the ground.
Naturally the doubters questions his methods. ‘Could it be transferred to the Premier League?’
Then there were stories of the intensive training camp at pre-season. Double training sessions. An intense training regime was implemented. Then follow ‘They will be too tired.’
This continued throughout the start of the season. All the players out running the opposing team. Every team has said Liverpool have been the toughest opposition they’ve played. Then we all heard; ‘It won’t last all season, there will be injuries..’
Our friend Raymond Verheijen has been tweeting about Klopp and his methods for quite some time. His rational was that he’s ‘educating’ young coaches. I wonder if he’s spoken to Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann? At 29 yrs old he’s doing a great job. Does he know about Periodisation Raymond?
What has been great recently was to see an interview Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson gave recently. He in fact stated his belief that the two summer additions to the backroom staff have helped the club to the top of the Premier League.
Klopp recruited Andreas Kornmayer from Bayern Munich as head of fitness and conditioning, while Mona Nemmer was appointed head of nutrition from a similar role at the Bundesliga champions.
“He’s been brilliant,” Henderson said of Kornmayer in an interview on the club’s official website. “He’s really come in and put his own stamp on what he wants to do and what the manager wants from the players.
“The lads get on very well with him, he’s got a good relationship with all the lads, and he works us very hard, which is good. We’ve got a great bunch of lads that want to work, so that makes it easier for him, but the things he’s done have definitely put us in good condition, as you can see out on the pitch in the performances and energy levels we’ve had.
“I feel very good at the moment, probably the best I’ve felt in years really in terms of my fitness and just in general.
“I think that’s the same as everyone – we’re feeling good as a team, very fit, and I think a lot of that is down to preseason and the base we had, and we’ve built on that over the first few weeks of the season and we continue to do that in training.” So the intensive training camp at pre-season with double training sessions seem to be working?
“We’re all looking good, we’re all looking healthy and fit, and that’s a big thing.”
Nutrition equally important
Jordan Henderson also believes Nemmer’s work on nutrition has been equally important.
He added: “We all ate well anyway — as professionals you need to make sure your diet is good. But since Mona come in, I think it has gone to another level – the food we’ve been having is unbelievable.”
“In preseason, I couldn’t believe it — we’re getting a bit spoilt, actually. She’s been world-class, making sure we’re getting the right food in after games, the protein shakes we have – everything, everything is covered nutritionally.”
“I’ve never seen anything like it since I’ve been involved in football in terms of the food we’re having.”
“Nutrition is a massive part of football, it makes sure you’re healthy, fit and feeling good, and that’s definitely been a side we’ve improved massively on.”
Now look at each other and say “was he right – knew he would be” Klopp we salute you. You shouldn’t be doubted, for those that still do look at what is going on around you. Our Captain feels the best he has for a long time.
Henderson is about to hit his prime. Lets hope we see more of this in the future.
Klopp has trusted him with the armband – Southgate has too, expect good things, no great things from him in the future.
In Klopp we trust. YNWA
