Liverpool looking to activate Williams clause

Liverpool are reportedly ready to activate the £43million release clause of Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams according to Express Sport.

It was revealed last season that Liverpool were interested in signing the 22-year-old Spaniard. However at the weekend Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claim the Reds are now ready to land Williams in the summer with Jürgen Klopp looking to bolster his ranks as he bids to avoid a repeat of their recent slump.

Williams has a release clause of €50m euros (£43m) and Klopp is apparently now ready to renew his interest in the La Liga star by triggering this clause in his contract in an attempt to bring him to Anfield.

But Williams has poured cold water of these rumours after he admitted that his first choice is to stay at Bilbao.

“Lots of things are coming out in the news but I am calm,” Williams told Sportium.

“If [Liverpool] are looking at me it’s because I’m doing things well. I’m very lucky.”

“If tomorrow I had to leave I would always be very honest with Athletic. They’ve given me everything.”

“The first I would do is speak to the president [if I wanted to leave.]”

Similar to Mane

One of the hardest workers in the Bilbao setup, the frontman is similar to Sadio Mané in the way he works unselfishly off the ball and creates space for others. This is something we could have really done with during January.

With Sturridge’s days now numbered it’s not a surprise to be linked with some of Europe’s young talent.
Williams is an expert at peeling off to one of the flanks and laying the ball on a plate for runners from midfield. He’s also blessed with lightning pace and quick feet, making him a nightmare for defences across the league.

  1. Fantastic vision and one touch passing to go with amazing foot speed and pace.

Weak with his left, but what else is new? Makes him vulnerable defensively with players going to his left. Nevertheless, $43m quid seems reasonable for such a talent.
