Liverpool travel to Watford for 1st game of season

It’s been a difficult transfer window. Amongst all the transfer rumours of Liverpool attempting to sign van Dijk or Naby Keita we’ve recently had to cope with the Philippe Coutinho stories about Barcelona.

We actually have forgotten time has not stood still and the Premier League actually kicked off this weekend!!! Liverpool’s first game of the season is against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday lunchtime.

Liverpool actually had an encouraging pre-season, winning the Premier League Asia Trophy and also beating Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup.

Who will Klopp choose in the opening weekend to face Watford?

The goalkeeper should be Mignolet. Whilst Ward and Karius had good pre-seasons, I don’t think they’ve done enough to take the no.1 jersey just yet.

In defence Clyne’s injury will probably force Klopp’s hand in selecting Alexander-Arnold. At this moment in time Matip and Lovren are our no.1 choice centre-back pairing. The left-back is a tricky one, however I feel Klopp should opt for Robertson to give him a run out and boost his confidence.

In midfield, with Robertson at left-back this gives Klopp the ability to play Milner in midfield. However I’d opt for Wijnaldum, Henderson and Can.

Probably for most of the season the Forward line will pick itself. Mané, Firmino and Salah will terrify any defence.

Match Report: Last season’s encounter

It’s going to be an interesting encounter, with transfers not going our way and Coutinho and Lallana injured an under-strength squad will have a battle.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Solanke make an appearance at some stage during the game.
