Liverpool to spend closer to £200m to challenge in Premier League next season

Liverpool are expected to splash out in transfer window… but it’ll be a lot more than we think. It was recently mentioned Jurgen Klopp will be handed a transfer kitty in the region of £100m, there was genuine excitement among Reds fans.

There is further good news as anyone who thinks Klopp will be spending £100m this summer is almost certain to be fooled. It will be a lot, lot more than that.

What will £100m get you?

A Sadio Mané, and 2 Firmino’s. Or a Paul Pogba. Whilst a £40m signing and two £30m signings sound great, you have to question is it enough. Well the obvious answer is no.
It has been highlighted on numerous occasions that the squad really lacks depth.

Where will the extra money coming from?

Mamadou Sakho, Alberto Moreno, Daniel Sturridge, Lazar Markovic, Lucas Leiva and Kevin Stewart are likely to go. Liverpool have improved as a selling club, and are likely to drive hard bargains for most departures.

FSG balanced the books last summer and the recruitment was actually good with some astute signings. The big problem is there just wasn’t enough of it.

That can’t happen again this time around.

FSG are asking £30m for Sakho, whilst there are a lot of fans wishing him to stay, it’s looking more likely he will leave. The frustrating thing is his replacement would likely cost over £40m. Unless a sensible swap deal involving van Dijk at Southampton can materialise.

Daniel Sturridge would command a fee closer to around £20m. Whilst Moreno and Markovic would potentially attract £15m each.

This would provide an extra £80m. The sale of other fringe sqaud players and youngsters could potentially take it closer be to £100m.

So whilst Klopp will be probably be handed a £100m purse in the coming transfer window, his overall spend will be nearer double that. It has to be.

Who would you like to see arrive at Anfield in the summer?

  1. A crazy amount of money. But it’s needed for us to compete next season. I’d love Brandt and Lacazette to arrive

    • Someone of Brandt’s pace and goal threat will only enhance our attacking options next season.
We need someone to unlock the door in midfield, an enforcer, a LB and a partner for Matip.
