TRANSFER RUMOURS: After the debacle with van Dijk where Liverpool finally ended their pursuit they have again started to look elsewhere for an alternative. Reports in Italy on Thursday morning suggest Liverpool could be interested in van Dijk’s fellow international team-mate, Stefan de Vrij.
According to Sky Italia, the Lazio centre-back was the subject of a €20m bid from Anfield, only for that offer to be rejected outright by the Serie A club. De Vrij is reportedly valued at a figure closer to €30m, despite the 25-year-old having only one year remaining on his current contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
Having already rejected his latest contract offer it’s fair to say that de Vrij is keen on a move to the Premier League.
The great thing about the purchase of we Vrij over van Dijk has to be his salary. Whilst some would argue that van Dijk is worth the reportedly £200k per week, you have to worry about it upsetting the balance. Coutinho, Henderson, Firmino, Mané and Lallana would all command larger salaries. Edwards would spend all summer resolving these issues!!
