Liverpool’s defence needs fixing. Not news to anyone after watching recent defensive displays against Man City and Sevilla. Only a few weeks into the season and the transfer rumours for next season have already begun!
Latest is that it’s thought Liverpool could go for Stefan De Vrij as well as renewing their interest in Southampton stopper Virgil van Dijk. We were linked to De Vrij during the summer and it’s hard to understand why nothing materialised. Maybe, just maybe Klopp thought he could work with Klavan and Lovren?
Liverpool are one of the best attacking forces in the Premier League and the way we tore apart Sevilla this week indicates how effective the front three of Mané, Firmino and Salah can be. However it’s the defence which is letting is down and it’s something Klopp can’t ignore anymore.
Dr Vrij could be available for free this summer due to a breakdown in talks with Lazio. By the summer it all could be too late, a bid in January to fix the broken defence is the only option and something that Lazio could be tempted with.
Should he decide to actually stay in Italy then Liverpool do face competition from Inter Milan and Juventus.
