Liverpool are lining up a summer move for Borussia Dortmund’s World Cup winner Mario Gotze. Jurgen Klopp wants a reunion with attacking midfielder Gotze and initial talks about an end-of-season switch are understood to have taken place.
There have been news stories circulating this weekend stating just that. It’s yet to be seen if it’s last summers stories re-circulating again. Liverpool were keen to sign Gotze, 24, last summer from Bayern Munich, however lack of Champions League football prompted Gotze to move back to Dortmund instead.
Gotze has failed to hit the same heights he did in his first spell at Dortmund under Klopp and is now thought to be after a new challenge to kickstart his career after failing to nail down a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s side.
The biggest issue with this is his fitness, he’s clearly not looking as fit as he was when he became the German idol having won the world cup. With the world at his feet you could say it hasn’t gone as many expected it would’ve.
Oh yeah, and the transfer fee.
Dortmund paid £20m to re-sign Gotze and will want to recoup as much of that fee as possible. Klopp is keen to link up with the World Cup winner once again, having coached him during his days at the Westfalenstadion.
Gotze is the type of player Liverpool need and Klopp is just the manager to get his career back on track. He is exactly the marquee signing we require to really challenge next season. Although a team with Gotze, Mané, Firmino, Coutinho and Lallana in it has ‘Champions’ written all over it!
Please FSG, make this happen. You know it makes sense.
