Liverpool poised to move for Mahmoud Dahoud

Liverpool have been chasing 20 year-old Borussia Monchengladbach star Mahmoud Dahoud for quite some time now. We were expecting a successful purchase this summer.

According to Express this week Jurgen Klopp is now ready to bring the young German to Anfield in January after a scouting mission in the Bundesliga. Klopp has now clearly seen enough and the club are ready to bid up to £26m to get the man they want.

Dahoud is now said to be considering his options after he rejected the chance to extend his stay at Borussia Monchengladbach. He is likely to keep the his current deal which ends in June 2018. Liverpool are hoping that £26m will be enough to get his signature, especially as his value will rapidly decline over the next 12 months.

Bursting onto the scene

Dahoud burst onto the scene last season making some great performances. Playing 54 games, scoring five goals and providing 11 assist. This season it has been a different story. He’s only made four Bundesliga appearances after falling out of favour with manager Andre Schubert.

Some reports claimed the reason for his lack of playing time is because of his contract situation. However, the Gladbach boss has denied these rumours and has said it is down to ‘fatigue’ and a ‘thigh strain’.

Of the games he did feature in this season, it has been reported Klopp has sent scouts to watch him play in Manchester City’s 4-0 win in the Champions League.

Initially we expected a threat from Juventus, however reports from Italy on Sunday night suggest they have now accepted defeat.
