Liverpool linked with Real Madrid starlet Asensio
This summer both Arsenal and Liverpool have smashed their respective transfer records already. Arsenal spent £52million to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, while Liverpool bought £39m Mohamed Salah from Roma.
Wenger is in a ‘Last Chance Saloon’ with many fans wanting him out. However Liverpool are at the other end of the spectrum with Jurgen Klopp at the helm.
Asensio enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign at Real Madrid last season, where the Spanish international helped Real to a La Liga and Champions League double with 10 goals and four assists in his 38 appearances.
And despite being used sparingly last season by Real head coach Zinedeine Zidane, Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing the 21-year-old.
Out of the two Premier League clubs it is thought that the Merseyside giants will have the upper hand due to playing in the Champions League football next season. Arsenal, however, will be competing in the Europa League.
Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan are also said to be keeping tabs on Asensio’s availability this summer.
But Diario Gol add that Asensio is keen to prove himself at Real Madrid and wants a new contract to extend his stay at the Bernabeu.
What is interesting is that according to The Sun Newspaper, Asensio is about to sign a new contract at Real Madrid and someone would have to pay a massive £309m for his signature.
The 21-year-old is about to put pen to paper on an improved contract with the European champions that would keep him at the club till 2023.
It was reported just recently in fact that Real Madrid had actually rejected a €50m bid from Liverpool, so why the story has resurfaced again is beyond me!
