Liverpool host Everton in 228th Merseyside Derby

This Saturday’s early kick off, Liverpool host Everton in what will be the 228th Merseyside derby. Unbelievably we have not lost at Anfield to them for almost 18 years. Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to maintain his own personal unbeaten record over them.

There is no denying that Everton are in good form and Lukaku will be desperate to continue his great form. If the rumours are true, he will well and truly want to be at the front of the shop window come transfer season when Europe’s Elite are looking.

A shuffle in midfield

We do have an un-nerving amount of injuries to key players. Again illustrating our small squad. Henderson and Lallana are both likely to be unavailable so Klopp will have to have another shuffle in midfield.

Alternatives, are there any?

With Henderson out injured the obvious choice would be to select Lucas as the defensive midfielder. Stewart would add an extra dimension and a great alternative. However Can hadn’t really done anything wrong recently and is again making the no.6 role his own. We really miss the creativity that Lallana provides. A runner, but a clever one at that. For me moving Milner into this role would be a good choice. Playing to the right of Can with Wijnaldum on his left. Adding balance to play.

Liverpool XI

Mignolet; Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Alexander-Arnold; Wijnaldum, Can, Milner; Coutinho, Firmino, Mané.

Mignolet has been automatic choice over Karius in recent weeks, and will likely be inbetween the sticks once more for Everton’s visit. It would be a tough call for Klopp on whether to stick with Klavan now Lovren is back. But I feel he adds that bit more at set-pieces.

Mané will be our main man again. We will need to utilise his pace again and really attack Everton’s defence from the offset. Coutinho has been quiet recently, let’s hope he’s alert and ready from the start.
