Liverpool end pursuit of Virgil Van Dijk  3 Comments

For those fans out there very excited about the prospect of Virgil Van Dijk there has been sad news, as Liverpool officially end their interest in signing the player. As detailed in a statement from LiverpoolFC.com

Liverpool Football Club would like to put on record our regret over recent media speculation regarding Southampton Football Club and player transfers between the two clubs.

We apologise to the owner, board of directors and fans of Southampton for any misunderstanding regarding Virgil van Dijk.

We respect Southampton’s position and can confirm we have ended any interest in the player.

Sad times indeed, whilst £60m was a lot of money for a central defender it sent a message of intent to other clubs in world football.

Van Dijk was Klopp‘s main target this summer and Liverpool were ready to break their transfer record. The frustrating thing was he had reportedly decided he actually wanted a move to Anfield, stating his level of intent to play under Klopp!
FSG have an opportunity to turn doubters into believers – the clock is counting down!

It’s disgusting!!! We had an opportunity to actually make a great central defensive partnership between him and Matip – thanks FSG!! Clearly never wanted to spend the money!

Do we need a new centre back, felt Lovren and Matip did well, i recon they would look a different class if Kante sat in front of them, feel that’s the problem more
