Liverpool and Arsenal have been put on red-alert after the sporting director of Wolfsburg (Klaus Ollofs) has recently admitted they would be willing to reconsider their stance on Julian Draxler’s availability. Stating that the 23-year-old may be allowed to leave Wolfsburg.
Draxler’s been linked with a move to either Premier League clubs for quite a while now. However, both have so far been unsuccessful in their pursuit of the player.
After a successful Euro 2016, the winger was expected to leave Wolfsburg. Despite interest across Europe he stayed at the club. Now Ollofs has declared the club would consider potential offers for Draxler. “We’d evaluate it differently now and maybe give our approval the next time.”
Staying in Germany
Draxler revealed he decided to leave Schalke for Wolfsburg, rather than join Juventus because he felt he had a better chance of realising his potential by staying in Germany.
Draxler is currently under contract until 2020 at Wolfsburg, who have set a buyout clause in the region of €75m. For someone who has nine appearances so far this season and failed to register a single goal or assist it seems a lot to pay!
I’m sure that any potential buyers may be slightly less interested in meeting that price. However you can’t argue that the player is class, with a lot of potential. The question is whether said potential is worth €75m.
