Liverpool to create new flagship store at Anfield

Liverpool have confirmed that work will begin on the new club shop next week – becoming the club’s flagship store.
Contractors are to begin work on the two-storey unit and the store set to open early in the 2017-18 season.

The new shop, which also includes a cafe, will be open on match days and non-match days and create 60 jobs.

It will be located on the corner of the Kop and the new Main Stand. The current store, situated in the Kop is currently 700 sqm. The new stand-alone retail unit will be a massive 1,800 sqm.

Choosing an external shop

Initial plans were for the new shop to be constructed within the new Main Stand. However the decided to go for an external shop – in the space next to the Albert pub on Walton Breck Road.

LFC’s chief commercial officer, Billy Hogan, said: “Liverpool Football Club has an ongoing commitment to the wider regeneration of the Anfield area. This development will further enhance the Main Stand development as well as the Anfield High Street and will take us a step closer to offering our fans the best in-store experience possible.”

The main entrance to the store is a lobby that takes the form of a players’ tunnel. This theme is repeated in other existing LFC stores.
A great external design feature is the overhanging roof, which will create an area for market stalls and programme sellers.

The majority of the exterior of the building is glazed while the red brickwork ties the building to the new Main Stand.

The ‘green link’, which is the route that leads fans through from Walton Breck Road to Stanley Park will be the other side of the new store.

Main Stand almost complete

Whilst this is happening, they are continuing on the internal work of the new Main Stand. The expectation is completion in January. These include the much-needed improved state-of-the-art changing rooms and new media facilities.

The new improved large Main Stand will create extra spaces and it’s still unknown what will happen to these. Ideas of food courts, fan zone areas and an extension to the current Museum are being discussed.
