There have been several reports today that Liverpool have put in a £15m bid for Lyon defender Emanuel Mammana.
The 21-year-old is a very highly rated defender, having been capped three times for Argentina already after a successful youth career for his country.
Mammana joined Lyon last summer for a fee of around £7m, making 17 Ligue 1 appearances , scoring one goal.
The Reds have made Virgil Van Dijk their top defensive target this summer, with Jurgen Klopp desperate to add the £50m-rated Southampton defender to his squad. However that transfer may never happen as Liverpool, who were potentially under investigation, withdrew any interest after Southampton accused them of tapping up the Dutchman.
Mammana would be an interesting alternative for Liverpool if the purchase of Virgil Van Dijk isn’t successful.
He seems like a good fit for the way Jurgen Klopp wants his side to play, with an ability to build an attack from the back, carrying the ball into midfield on a regular basis. The Argentine’s ability on the ball really stands out, finishing last season with a whopping 91% passing accuracy.
The 21-year-old is a talented defender as well, weighing in heavily with tackles, interceptions and clearances last term despite only making 16 starts in Ligue 1.
Liverpool would first have to agree a fee with Lyon for the former River Plate defender. The French club sold Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal this week and are notoriously difficult negotiators.
