Are Liverpool after another Mario?
Liverpool have now turned their attentions to signing Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Joao Mario, according to several reports in Portugal.
23-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder has been followed by quite s few top European clubs recently.
He is now seen as Klopps number 1 target after their plans of signing Mario Gotze were ruined as he opted to stay at Bayern Munich, as well as the move for Udinese’s Piotr Zielinkski being put on hold till after Euro 2016.
Mario has been the subject of much speculation since the domestic season finished, having reportedly told his current club that he wants to end his 10-year stay in Lisbon.
Mario has been included in Portugal’s squad for Euro 2016, and is tipped to become one of the tournaments star performers, this could go some way to determining how much the Reds will have to pay for his signature.
Man Utd and Chelsea are also hopeful of bringing the 23-year-old to England.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed a productive season in Lisbon, scoring 7 goals and 12 assists.
Rather frustratingly, it’s yet another attacking name linked with a move to Liverpool where the squad have a lot of options already, either with Senior players or youth team prospects.
There are certainly more important areas of the team for Klopp to get right before buying another attacking midfielder…unless he knows something about Coutinho that he’s failing to mention. The money men at Anfield would be very happy as Mario would also represent a long-term addition to Klopp’s growing squad.
It’s going to be a long summer…
