Benteke Crystal Palace offer accepted…job done…finally. Huge sigh of relief.
Finally Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign Belgium striker Christian Benteke. He was signed by former manager Brendan Rodgers last preseason for £32.5m. However despite being signed Rodgers did confess that he wasn’t sure how to play him..hmmm. It’s not surprising that he only went on to make 29 appearances in what was a season with a lot of games.
This season with no European football and the signing of Saido Mane there is a natural squad reduction occurring.
Benteke Crystal Palace offer accepted..
Both clubs have settled on a fee of £27m plus add-ons, this could eventually see it rise to above £30m. He will become Crystal Palace’s record signing. I hope for Benteke’s sake that he can live up to the pressure.
Initial offer was rejected..
It was rumoured that Crystal Palace had initially offered £23m plus £7m add ons. This is also £30m, however it was rejected on Tuesday. The breakdown of the £7m has been revealed by Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe. £2.5 million payment would have required Palace to secure Champions League football, with Benteke playing at least 70 percent of their games as well as scoring at least 20 goals in the process.

The issue is that Benteke has only once scored more that 20 goals in a season in his career. This was with Aston Villa in 2012/13. Also, Crystal palace have only finished in the top 10 once since they were recently promoted, so achieving top 4 is very ambitious.
The finances of the add-ons have to be sensible and achievable. The ones initially proposed seem more like financial incentives for Benkete not us…!! You do have to praise FSG for playing hard ball and getting the money they wanted. Well done..!
So, this now created a positive net spend. What will we be seeing happening in the final 2 weeks before the transfer window closes? Will we see that Left-back arrive that we so crave for.
We will just have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, Klopp is slowly rectifying Rodgers mistakes. Transfer committee or no transfer committee you need to know where and how your signing will play.
With Mane costing just £4m more…you have to smile.
