Klopp talks about possible January transfers

With Forward Danny Ings ruled out for the rest of the season with another horrific injury and Sadio Mane will be missing at the African Cup of Nations for a month Liverpool are poised to dip into the January transfer window.
According to the Liverpool Echo Klopp plans to maintain their title challenge.

Klopp tapping up  the German market

Top of Klopp’s list of attacking are the Bundesliga duo Christian Pulisic and Mahmoud Dahoud. Both possible transfers are now gathering momentum. He has made it clear of the possible problems that could arise as the season goes on. These could be made worse if Liverpool continue to progress in the cups.

“We watch the market all the time and of course we need to be prepared for different situations and one of them is injuries, the Africa Cup of Nations we already knew about so we don’t need to be influenced or surprised by that, but it could be a moment when we approach the market.”

In need of a winger

It is more than likely that a winger would be top of Klopp’s list with there being no direct replacement for Mané within the squad.

“It’s not about how many strikers. Three strikers is enough, I think. But when Sadio is away we will be without a winger. We do not have many wingers, I would say. Roberto Firmino could play as a kind of a winger which would then just give us two strikers. It is a long way to go from January onwards and that month of January is busy.”

Klopp has been keen to land Mahmoud Dahoud for some time

Danny Ings suffered his second serious knee injury of his Liverpool career this month. He could potentially be ruled out for up to nine months.

This is another major blow for Klopp’s plans. Ings was really doing well playing for the U23’s, according to Klopp he was ‘very close’ to the starting lineup.

If Senegal progress to the final, Liverpool could be without both Mané and Ings for some key Premier League fixtures including the reverse fixtures against Man United (January 15) and Chelsea (January 31).

As well as a possible League Cup semi-final should the Reds beat Leeds United in the quarter-final later this month.

“If we can go to the semi-final of the League Cup it could be the busiest month of the whole year. We need to be prepared for this for sure.”
