If Liverpool are to have any chance in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita this summer they will have to smash their club transfer record. According to a report from The Times, only an offer between £50m-£60m would tempt RB Leipzig to allow Keita to leave.
Liverpool need to press ahead with their plans to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League in 2017/18.
Dubbed the next Kante, Keita has been one of the stars of the Bundesliga since helping Leipzig into the top flight a year ago.
It is claimed that Liverpool would be willing to stump up the cash for a player that Klopp rates so highly.
Were such a move to go ahead, it would be a huge new record for Liverpool. The club’s existing transfer mark stands at the £35m paid for Andy Carroll in 2011.
Recent signings from FSG have been at a much higher standard and more successful. Thankfully they have shown they are prepared to back Klopp after buying Wijnaldum and Mané who have both had a successful first season at Anfield.
Rumours earlier this week claimed that Klopp will have more than £100m to spend to suitably prepare his squad for next season. If £50m of that is to go on Keita, then i’d hope the other £50m goes on Virgil van Dijk.
I’d be surprised to get them both, we can hope and dream. It would be amazing if they pulled that off.
I’d have thought Klopp would have more than the £100m mentioned.
After all, we have made Champions League!!
