Loris now 1st choice keeper at Liverpool

On Tuesday night Liverpool face Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. For the League Cup game most people are expecting a much changed side.  Regardless of what people say, the league is no.1 priority – Making the Champions League has to happen.
It may not be our 1st team playing, but I’d expect it will still be strong side as the winner will progress to the League Cup quarter-final.

I expect minor tweaks rather than wholesale changes.

Karius is no.1

During the press conference Klopp confirmed the German is currently first-choice.

Klopp has now confirmed that Karius is no.1 goalkeeper

“In this moment we have a No. 1, that’s Loris Karius. That’s the situation.” Klopp then went on to say during the interview; “I cannot leave them in doubt. There were two or three games to see more of Loris, but after the last international break I spoke to both of them.”

When signing for Liverpool Karius said: “It’s an honour to play for a club like Liverpool after completing my move from Mainz,” going on to then describe Jurgen Klopp as one of the best coaches in the world.

Mignolet will be starting in goal against Tottenham on Tuesday in the League Cup

Mignolet praised

At his recent press conference Klopp praised Mignolet for his positive, professional attitude after recently being dropped in favour of Loris Karius.

“He’s a real professional. We had a few talks, I didn’t have the perfect answer. It’s what I call a luxury problem,” Klopp said.

Simon Mignolet will start in goal for Liverpool in the game against Tottenham on Tuesday.

“We have these goalkeepers fit and in shape, so that’s it. A few talks, everything is good from my side.”

Klopp recognising that the cup is important, but stating he will be making changes.

“I don’t think about who should be rested, I think about who should play. There will be some changes. No final decision yet.”

“This is a very big cup tournament. We want to go to the final and we want to win it.

“My job is to use the quality of the players and to show them the right way. Of course results help.”
