Welcome back Joe Gomez. He has turned a corner and is finally set to make a long awaited comeback during pre-season.
The youngster signed from Charlton for £3.5m last summer, he was expected to go out on loan to a Championship club, however after impressing so much at pre-season Rodgers kept him in the squad for the forthcoming campaign.
Sadly after just 7 games he ruptured an anterior knee ligament whilst on England U21 duty. He has since spent the last eight months recovering from the injury.
“I was running alongside one of their players, we were shoulder to shoulder and he went over. I tried to stay on my feet but I was off balance. As my weight went on to my right leg, it bent inwards and I felt something go. The knee just gave way.”
Klopp and his team have put a specially designed plan in place for Gomez after he only recently returned to training outdoors.
Working hard to integrate back into the team
He is working very hard over the coming weeks and is committed to doing double training sessions to get himself fit for the start of pre-season where he will slowly be integrated into first team squad again.
Gomez will play at least some part of the friendlies planned during July and August.
Joe Gomez, it’s like a new signing
Gomez has been likened to Rio Ferdinand recently, due to his composure on the ball. He likes to play the ball out from the back. He is strong and powerful and his athleticism is his key strength. These are exactly the key strengths that Klopp is looking for in his defenders.
I’m sure any encouraging words from him have helped him during what has been a very difficult start to his Anfield career.
I look forward to seeing you return Joe, good luck…
