According to reports Manchester United have opened talks over a move for Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann.
The French international superstar has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League. The power men at Old Trafford have been working out a proposal for the last few months, with talk peaking after his excellent performances at Euro 2016.
It is thought now that United are reported to have asked a leading agent to set the wheels in motion for a transfer to Man United.
The report claims Griezmann could set Jose Mourinho’s side back by £60m. Atletico are likely to hold out for a higher fee as his contract does stipulate a higher figure in his release clause. He is likely to stay in Spain for the rest of the season. This will allow United time to further negioate and complete a transfer next summer.
Links to Arsenal
However, Griezmann had stated earlier this week that he was looking to stay in Madrid for now, despite the fact the likes of United, Arsenal and Real Madrid have been linked with a move for him.
Griezmann has revealed he had spoken to French international teammate and Gunners star Laurent Koscielny about moving to London. “For Arsenal, he speaks to me about it often. But I’m good in Madrid. I don’t want to leave. I’m happy here. I have just had a little girl, I play my games, I’m good. Sorry, I’m going to stay. But Arsenal are a good team, they play good football.”
Potentially just agent talk
Whether the story is ‘agent talk’ as he’s hoping for a larger contract in the summer is to be seen. “I’m so good at Atletico. Honestly, I don’t see myself leaving. People often talk to me about England too, but I’m good here.”
There has been talk like so many top La Liga stars to make a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“And also, going from Atletico to Real must be difficult. I don’t necessarily have the desire to try, nor to ask those who have already done it. No, I’m not thinking about it.”
There are so many stories like this going around at the moment – this will intensify as we get closer to the winter transfer window. Looks like this story could be one of those.
Are we likely to see Antonio Griezmann and James Rodriguez in the Premier League soon? The league is the wealthiest in the world, so it may just happen. We wait and see…
