Fallout of no Europe…?

With no European football next season the question is what will the fallout be? One of the benefits as discussed in my article ‘Advantage in Premier League title race?’ is that Jurgen Klopp will have additional time with his squad to prepare for the league games, thus giving them an advantage compared to other clubs in Europe.

Small squad only needed..

However for this to be successful they would probably run with a smaller squad. The question is; will there be a Fallout of no Europe?

Players who could potentially be frozen out are those who were on the edge of the 1st team or those who play in positions Klopp is looking to upgrade.

The players that come to the forefront are; Kolo Toure, Jordan Ibe, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen, Martin Skrtel and Christian Benteke.

Verdict on those being sold..

Kolo Toure; only playing 14 league games last season, whilst 2 more that the previous year it is quite low and with his wages i’m sure Klopp feels he’s not getting a lot back in return. Whilst he was arguably Liverpool’s best player in the Europa League Final question marks remain over levels of fitness…VERDICT: Sold

Jordan Ibe; last season was the time Ibe really stepped up out of the shadow that Sterling left and at times showed that there should be no regret he was sold. At times he faded and showed his in-experience. He was given plenty of opportunity with 27 league appearances. I do feel with more opportunity he could be a great squad player…VERDICT: Loan

Lucas Leiva; playing 27 games last season, either in central Defence or Defensive Midfielder, the issue with this is that Klopp has already recruited a new Centre Back and is potentially working on a new midfield partner for Emre CanVERDICT: Sold

Joe Allen; having made 19 appearances last season, whilst he was used as an impact substitute on a regular basis he only really started games when Henderson was injured and Klopp rested a few of the 1st team before an important European game. Now that Brendan Rodgers has taken over Celtic he is after his man he took from Swansea to Liverpool 4 years ago.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go back to Swansea. They can really build the team around him which would suit his style of play.
However it has been said that he won’t be cheap… VERDICT: Sold

Martin Skrtel; only making 22 appearances last season. Skrtel is the most experienced current Liverpool player having plated in 242 Premier league games over 9 seasons… VERDICT: Sold

Christian Benteke; last season was his 1st one with Liverpool and potentially his last. He was bought by Rodgers, admired from afar by Klopp whilst at Dortmund. However, when given the opportunity he didn’t display the qualities Klopp would expect from his leading man. From the 29 appearances he did manage 9 league goals but his all round play wasn’t the same as Origi or Sturridge. Occasionally Klopp would opt for a false 9 playing Firmino in the role…VERDICT: Sold

  1. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog.
    A great read.
    I will definitely be back.
