Emil Forsberg has recently emerged as one of Liverpool’s top transfer targets with some reports suggesting that the Reds are willing to bid £20m for the player.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to find another attacking wide man as the Reds have sorely missed the style and flair Coutinho adds to the team. Also, Saido Mane is now away on international duty with Senegal for the next month at AFCON.
Emil Forsberg has been one of the standout players for the surprise League title contenders this season. He is tearing up the league and with 9 assists so far he is number 1 provider in the Bundesliga.
Just recently the agent of Emil Forsberg has refused to rule out the midfielder’s possible departure from RB Leipzig during the January transfer window. Whilst this is usually just agent talk to get a larger contract, however with RB Leipzig it’s slightly different.
RB Leipzig’s moneyball
For all their wealth, RB Leipzig’s policy is one of focusing on youth, nurturing young players by giving them valuable game time that might not be available elsewhere before selling them on for a profit when they hit their prime. Perfect moneyball!!
With an average age of just 23 they have a lot of players about to hit their prime – Emil Forsberg included.
Leipzig’s sporting director is Ralf Rangnick, former manager of Stuttgart, Hannover 96, Hoffenheim and Schalke. He is an innovative tactician, known as the brains behind the frenetic pressing game that has since become the hallmark of German football. Led by popular coaches Jürgen Klopp and his successor at Borussia Dortmund, Thomas Tuchel.
Mixed signals about move
So, Emil Forsberg is familiar to a high intensity style of play. In fact he’s excelling this season. This coupled with the fact that a deal for Klopp’s preferred target Christian Pulisic is not likely to happen means Liverpool have now turned their attentions to Forsberg instead.
Despite RB Leipzig’s manager stating he didn’t expect any of his players moving on this transfer window – Forsberg’s agent had turned up the heat hinting that the Swedish international may yet leave RB Leipzig after refusing to make promises about his client’s future.
Liverpool will now be hoping they can take advantage of Forsberg’s uncertain future and lure him to Anfield.
This could be the closest run title for years. Liverpool stand a very good chance of making it happen, so expect Klopp’s squad in the 2nd half of the season to be more competitive than before.
