Virgil Van Dijk is still keen to join Liverpool after announcing they were the only club he wants to sign for. This is great news – does this mean we will land another of our top targets? He’s so keen that he is even considering handing in a transfer request to make sure he gets his way.
This news has resurfaced again after Arsenal’s recent attempts to challenge Liverpool in the pursuit of the Southampton defender. During the summer Jurgen Klopp looks to solidify his defence so Liverpool can form a strong title challenge next season. At times we attacked like European Champions, but we’re let down with Schoolboy errors at the back!
Having nearly joined earlier this summer before the Southampton reported Liverpool to the Premier League for making an illegal approach, prompting the Anfield club to make a public apology and confirm they had withdrawn from the race.
Southampton had earlier this summer slapped a £75m price tag on the player given the huge interest in him – but Liverpool could land Van Dijk for closer to £60m.
Liverpool were widely tipped to complete his signing even while the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal have also been linked. The fact we are still in the running despite the financial clout of both City and Chelsea is testament to Jurgen Klopp. Clearly his meeting with van Dijk went very well and impressed him enough to want to sign.
Another situation of when the Klopp effect is in full swing is with dynamic central midfielder Naby Keita from RB Leipzig. Another player we’ve been told is unavailable however down to Klopp the transfer is looking highly likely!
The club have so far signed Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke, while Hull City full back Andy Robertson is also tipped to be moving to Merseyside in the near future.
