Champions League in own hands as Liverpool face Watford

WOW – after the loss against Crystal Palace we could have potentially been 5th and out of the running for a Champions League position. However this is the Premier League after all, there are always twists and turns!

Thankfully Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal all failed to win their additional game in hand. This now means we control our very own destiny as we look to return to winning ways against Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday evening.

Jurgen Klopp was given a major boost with both Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge returning to full training on Friday. This will be a big physiological boost, however it’s unlikely both will start.

Starting XI

Mignolet; Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Milner; Lallana, Can, Wijnaldum; Firmino, Origi, Coutinho.

The back 5 is an obvious one, Mignolet deserves to keep his place as no.1 having proved his value to the team frequently over the weeks. Having just signed a new contract with a decent pay rise, Lovren should be buzzing. I’d be disappointed if he didn’t play out of his skin for the rest if the season. Let’s hope that Clyne and Milner can provide the much needed width. Occasionally Clyne has been disappointing with his final ball which has frequently been a strength of his.

Whilst there is a question mark over Lallana’s fitness, a 90% fit Lallana would be a massive boost to our creative play. Can has been great slotting in nicely into the holding role with Wijnaldum playing to his left.

Coutinho will feature on the left-hand side with Firmino (right) and Origi (centre) completing the attacking trio.
