Reports linking Iker Casillas to Liverpool
Liverpool are reportedly in the hunt to sign FC Porto and former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who considers their offer “one of the most solid” and has a pre-contract on the table already.
According to several reports in Spanish and English newspapers, Casillas has received offers from the Premier League, Turkey and China. However it’s a suspected offer from Liverpool that has caught the imagination of the English media, with reports of some betting shops stopping bets on him signing!
It was only last summer that Loris Karius signed to provide competition to Simon Mignolet – which worked wonders as Mignolet delivered some stand out performances towards the end of the season. Let’s not forget the amazing efforts of Danny Ward, who according to the The Huddersfield Daily Examiner is wanted back at Liverpool next season to challenge for the no.1 spot.
While Liverpool’s attack was, at times, one of the most threatening in the Premier League this past season, the same can’t be said of the club’s back line, which conceded 42 goals, the third-most of any team in the top seven.
With an assault on a European front next season, it’s fair to say that the only thing the three of them are missing is experience!
Could Casillas be given a role similar to that if Manninger?
Casillas is a veteran of the European circuit on a level that few others can match, this knowledge would be priceless and really help in particular Karius and Ward.
I’m sure there will be official reports coming out soon denying such stories and Casillas signing a new bumper contract after the ‘interest’ from Liverpool!!
