TRANSFER RUMOURS: It has been on the cards for a while, an awful display at the start of the season, talk of contract negotiations stalling, then some amazing performances to make us all re-fall back in love with him. Looks like Juventus have decided now is the time to potentially buy Emre Can.
I’d have said “yes sell him” 6 months ago, but now I’m scratching my head when I hear Liverpool actually want just £26m for him!! Italian newspaper II Messaggero have reported Juventus have sent club officials to make enquiries for the German international midfielder.
Can does have another 12 months remaining on his current contract but his future at the club could depend on whether he extends his deal.
The Reds midfielder did finish the season strong, playing an important role in his side finishing in the top-four and booking a Champions League spot.
Klopp is keen on his star midfielder remaining at the club, stating everyone wanting him to stay after his bicycle kick. He was quoted as saying in the Guardian.
“I think it is no secret how much I like Emre. He likes the club and that is a completely normal situation. We are in talks and there is absolutely no pressure, it is all good. It is two partners with big respect for each other. If we can keep good players that makes sense for development and he is one of these good players. I am quite positive.”
Joachim Low has selected Can for his Germany squad which will compete at this summer’s Confederation Cup in Russia.
Can started in Liverpool’s last 13 games of the season, filling in for injured captain Jordan Henderson. One such performance was where the powerful midfielder scored the goal of the season against Watford.
