Ex-Liverpool legend Rafa Benitez is looking at strengthening his Newcastle United squad ahead of their return to the Premier League. Next on the list is youngster Sheyi Ojo.
Newcastle United are looking to organise a potential loan deal for Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo. However Klopp will be keen to take a look at him in pre-season, having returned to training at Anfield early after winning the under-20 World Cup with England.
Jurgen Klopp has laid out Sheyi Ojo’s objectives for earning a regular role at Liverpool, praising the youngster as a “wonderful player” but pointing out a lack of maintaining focus. Ojo must find consistency whenever he is called upon, he has raw potential, power and speed but lacks the sharpness that’s requires for the Premier League.
The 20-year-old has been a long-term target of Benitez’s, with the Newcastle manager interested in him last close season and looking at him again in January. He would get opportunities at St James’ Park, with Benitez keen to freshen up his wide options as Yoan Gouffran’s future remains uncertain.
With Ojo’s role at Anfield again likely to be on the fringes, struggling for game time, Klopp would be wise to sort a temporary move for his young star now in order to give him a full campaign elsewhere at the top level.
If Klopp can’t promise Ojo first team football then it would be a choice between U23’s at Liverpool or Premier League football under Benitez’s guidance at Newcastle.
Working with Benitez would be a great opportunity for not only Ojo but any other Liverpool youngster who Klopp would like to test in the Premier League.
