Reports have come out from French news publication Foot Mercato that Barcelona are now ready to rival Liverpool for the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach’s rising star Mahmoud Dahoud. They claim that Barcelona are attempting to swoop for Dahoud under the nose the Liverpool at the end of the season.
It’s very public that Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the 21-year-old, however has sadly failed on any bids to land the youngster. There were rumours that Liverpool were organising a deal worth £26m for Dahoud in the January transfer window, but those plans appear to have been put on hold until the end of season. Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl stated; “There is no offer and there has been no offer from any club. The chances of Dahoud moving as of today are zero percent.”
Dahoud’s contract is now in its final 18 months and chances are if he doesn’t sign a new contract then Monchengladbach will hope to try and find a new club for Dahoud before his value plummets.
Dahoud burst onto the scene last season making some great performances. Playing 54 games, scoring five goals and providing 11 assist. This season it has been a different story. He’s only made four Bundesliga appearances after falling out of favour with manager Andre Schubert.
Klopp still has ambitions of Dahoud putting on the famous red shirt, touching the ‘This is Anfield’ sign and playing alongside the likes of Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana and Henderson, but will apparently wait until this summer before making another offer.
However it appears that Barcelona are not the only club after Dahoud. Liverpool will now have to compete against Juventus and PSG for the Germany Under-21 international.
