I was shocked to hear that Liverpool are finally relaying their famous Anfield turf for the first time in 16 years. That’s right, 16 years!!! The first time since 2001, and just in time for the club’s return to Europe’s Elite with Champions League football.
The new main stand been completed for a while now and the club turn their attention to what matters – the pitch. (In more ways than one!)
Klopp complained about the state of the turf in the 0-0 draw against Southampton in May, claiming that the grass was too dry and didn’t allow his team to pass with the necessary speed.
Anfield will finally get a completely new pitch, which also includes a new state-of-the-art drainage and irrigation system.
Initially the work on the main stand meant that the new pitch had to be put on hold but with Champions League football back, there will be a completely new surface in time for their qualifier in August.
